Granby Schools Lose December State Aid Payment Over Delayed Town Financial Report
GRANBY — January 6, 2026 — Granby schools lost their December Chapter 70 state aid payment after the district missed a filing deadline caused by a town-side data gap. Superintendent Todd Dorman told the School Committee at its January 6 meeting that he has been waiting months for financial information from the town to complete the required end-of-year report, and that DESE withheld the December allocation as a consequence. Chair Jennifer Leon said she spoke with the Select Board chair, identified only as Mark, who acknowledged the problem as a town issue; meetings involving the state deputy commissioner have already taken place. The committee also unanimously approved two emergency changes to the junior-senior high school handbook — removing a breathalyzer-testing paragraph the district never used and expanding the bullying policy's list of protected categories — ahead of a two-day DESE civil rights audit beginning January 13. Early budget projections from Dorman put next year's spending increase at potentially under 2 percent, with shared transportation arrangements with neighboring districts under preliminary discussion.
