Granby Planning Board Moves to Separate Outdoor Display Rules From Vehicle Sales Standards

GRANBY — August 25, 2025 — Granby Planning Board advances framework to regulate outdoor display of goods and equipment. The board, meeting August 25, signed the written decisions for two previously approved special permits — 61 Pleasant Street and 185 West State Street — before spending the bulk of the session working through proposed zoning language with its planning consultant. Members agreed that motorized vehicles, farm equipment, trailers, and registerable machinery should require a special permit and site plan review, while retail accessory display of goods and wares would be governed by simpler setback and safety standards. The board acknowledged that Granby's current bylaw technically prohibits outdoor display everywhere but has never been enforced and lacks any definition of "goods and wares." The planning consultant is expected to present a full zoning diagnostic at the board's next meeting, tentatively September 8 or 9, funded through a District Local Technical Assistance grant.
