Granby Planning Board Approves East State Street Lot Merger, Pushes Back on Auto-Business Stamp Delay

GRANBY — April 13, 2026 — Granby's Planning Board affirmed a prior approval for an auto dealer's 20-car display lot and began a structured review of zoning bylaw contradictions at its April 13 meeting. The board voted unanimously to endorse an approval-not-required lot combination on East State Street, clearing the way for a property owner to build a home on a wetland-constrained parcel surveyed by Harold Eaton with a proposed 24-by-45-foot footprint. In a separate matter, the board pushed back after the town's building commissioner convened a post-decision meeting with the fire chief and police chief and sought to reduce a planning board-approved 20-car-for-sale allowance at 161 West State Street to 15; a board member declared the intervention outside the building department's authority and said he would call the town the following morning to move the plan to stamp. Planning consultant Evan presented a bylaw analysis identifying contradictions in how medical offices are permitted across districts — including a section that refers internally to a "research and intelligence park" overlay that does not exist in the document — and a gap in outdoor display and storage rules exposed by a recent farm-equipment application. Draft amendment language for both topics is expected at the next meeting, with a fall special town meeting as the target for formal changes; the town's zoning survey has collected 44 responses to date.
