Granby School Committee Approves Warrants, Enters Executive Session for Contract Talks
GRANBY — July 17, 2025 — Granby School Committee introduced its new East Meadow Elementary principal and flagged significant federal funding uncertainty at its July 17 meeting. Cynthia Sykes, entering her 26th year in education and sixth as an administrator, was welcomed by the three-member quorum. Superintendent Nixon warned the committee that Title II-A and Title IV federal education grants are under federal review and may be reduced or paused, while Finance and Operations Director Dormant reported that a 25 percent state rural aid cut will reduce the district's operating budget by roughly $25,000. The kitchen renovation project, idle for five years, remains within budget and on track for substantial completion by August 15, potentially restoring cafeteria lunch service to students at the start of the school year. The committee voted unanimously to enter executive session for contract negotiations with non-union personnel and adjourned without returning to open session.
