Granby School Committee approves $10.6 million FY26 budget request for town meeting

GRANBY — April 15, 2025 — Granby School Committee unanimously approved a $10,618,920 FY26 school budget request for town meeting and a $12,450,430 total operating budget at its April 15 meeting. The committee also approved a $12,000 transfer from the teacher salary cost center to cover a $537 substitute-teacher deficit driven by leaves of absence and what members called an "exceptionally hard flu season," with Superintendent Todd Dorman noting that unfilled teaching positions provided the necessary surplus. A community donation of paper supplies to East Meadow Elementary from resident Liz Lefond was accepted with one abstention. Member Mary Jane Bartos reported a new partnership with the Granby Cultural Council, including a student art show set for May 15 at the high school with cash prizes, and Dorman noted that the House Ways and Means budget expected the following day was likely to preserve universal free school meals but that Chapter 70 aid remained uncertain. The committee ended the public meeting by voting 4-0 to enter executive session for non-union contract negotiations.
