School Committee adopts ICE-access policy for schools
School Board · Meeting of September 16, 2026
Granby School Committee adopts a policy barring immigration agents from schools without a judicial warrant. The committee approved Policy ACL on a first read, following an August 2026 state law, with member Liz noting "they wouldn't be able to just walk into the school anyway." Members also cleared a senior class trip to Lake George, estimated at $334 to $403 per student, and a Broadway trip to see "The Outsiders" at about $142 per student. Budget votes moved $80,000 from out-of-district tuition to contracted services for a student remaining in-district, $3,000 to fund a coaches' video system, and $1,102 for a "Smart Pass" hall-tracking tool.
Superintendent Mary Jane reported Director of Student Services Nicole Huru is resigning effective October 9 and announced a $25,000 teacher-apprenticeship planning grant.
