Granby Planning Board approves used car sales permit for West State Street station

Granby Planning Board grants Dressel Service Station a special permit to sell up to 20 used vehicles alongside its existing repair shop. The board voted unanimously Monday to approve the special permit with site plan approval for Smith and Merrill Inc., doing business as Dressel Service Station, at 161 West State Street in the General Business zoning district, under Sections 6.2, 6.3, and 3.5.10 of the Granby Zoning Bylaws. Approved operating hours run 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week.

A board member steered the applicant toward requesting 20 spaces rather than the 11 initially labeled on the site plan, noting that whatever figure the Planning Board set would cap the Select Board's subsequent dealer license. The applicant must wait out a 20-day appeal period before the Select Board can issue that license. The board also unanimously approved two approval-not-required lot-line adjustments — one splitting a 63-acre Truby Street parcel between siblings, one combining two parcels at Bachelor and Amherst streets — and discussed adopting a structured pre-hearing packet system modeled on Chicopee's practice of posting staff reports and department-head comments online as soon as applications are received.
