Granby Library Trustees Approve FY2026 Budget With Third Bid for Part-Time Hire

GRANBY — February 11, 2025 — Granby Library Trustees approved a two-track FY2026 budget submission that renews a three-year push for a 25-hour circulation assistant. Library Director Jen Crosby presented the board with parallel budgets — one reflecting a straight 3 percent cost-of-living and bottom-line increase, the other adding a roughly $22,000 part-time position — and said she will submit both after last year's single request for the position was denied with no fallback on record. Trustees voted unanimously to approve both budgets and accompanying letters to the Town Administrator and Finance Committee Chair, and encouraged Crosby to add safety and liability examples to the letters, noting the library's policy of closing to the public when only one staff member is present has already forced program cancellations. Crosby also reported that January circulation reached 5,220 items and the library saved residents an estimated $68,000 in borrowing value. The board approved two warrants totaling $3,857.46 and voted to let two trustee vacancies roll to the May town election rather than continue a stalled appointment process.
