Granby Conservation Commission Weighs Eversource Wetland Mitigation Offers

GRANBY — March 11, 2025 — Granby Conservation Commission fields Eversource request for wetland mitigation ideas tied to a 5.4-mile transmission corridor widening. The commission reviewed a letter from Becky Weissman of Swyka Environmental Consultants, writing on behalf of Eversource, describing the WT11 Transmission Right-of-Way Reliability Program, which would clear 5.4 acres of bordering vegetated wetlands and affect 2.6 acres of 200-foot riverfront along Bachelor Brook in Granby, all within the company's existing easement. Eversource is seeking suggestions for local mitigation projects — culvert replacements, daylighting, or land preservation — before filing a Notice of Intent with the town in fall 2025. The commission voted to have consultant Dave Desolate reach out to Highway Department Director Dave Derouer to identify priority culvert candidates, including a long-discussed replacement on Easton Street that lacked local funding. A prior Eversource project delivered a significant Bachelor Brook culvert at no cost to the town.
