Granby Conservation Commission approves Redfire Farm barn project with twelve conditions

GRANBY — August 12, 2025 — Granby Conservation Commission unanimously approved the Redfire Farm barn reconstruction project on Carver Street, subject to twelve stormwater special conditions. The commission, chaired by Bill Shea, required applicant engineer Jeff Squire of Berkshire Design Group to hydraulically interconnect two rain garden basins, bring total stormwater storage volume to 200 percent of the submitted design, install a maintainable level spreader, and submit a shop drawing within 30 days before construction may begin. DEP representative Mark Stinson advised that roof runoff discharge must remain outside the 146-foot Zone 1 radius of a proposed public water supply well. Separately, the commission continued the Forge Pond Dam replacement hearing — filed by the town itself — to September 9, with a site visit tentatively set for September 3. The commission also approved a $2,280 invoice to conservation agent Dave Dessolette for July services and held a prolonged discussion on unresolved stormwater maintenance obligations at the Cumberland Farms detention basins on Pleasant Street, which Stinson said may support an enforcement order under stormwater standard nine.
