Granby Board of Health Requires Fixed Standby Power for Redfire Farm Septic System

GRANBY — August 27, 2025 — Granby's Board of Health approved five septic compliance certificates and conditioned a major farm market septic design on fixed standby power at its August 27 meeting. The board rejected a portable gasoline generator as adequate backup for the Redfire Farm system on Carver Street, directing engineer Chris to specify a permanent standby power source, citing the presence of residential tenants on the property; the board also directed revised nitrogen loading documentation before any approval can proceed. The board issued certificates of compliance for systems at 181 East Street, 85 South Street — where fill mounding reached an estimated five to six feet above grade — 74 Aldridge Street, and 113 Bachelor Street, and approved a septic repair design at 202 West Street for a four-bedroom house. Separately, the board voted to send a letter to the Select Board warning that eliminating curbside trash pickup, under discussion for fiscal year 2027, risks a return to illegal dumping, and agreed to invite winery owner Jim Trumpy to the next meeting over unresolved liquid process waste concerns at 16 East Street. The board's next regular meeting is scheduled for September 23, 2025.
