Granby Board of Health approves Red Fire Farm septic permit with deferred power condition

GRANBY — September 23, 2025 — Granby Board of Health approves Red Fire Farm septic permit, defers backup-power requirement until farmhouse becomes habitable. At its September 23 meeting, the three-member board approved engineer Chris Chamberlain's application for a septic system serving the Red Fire Farm market building, conditioning the board's standing backup-power requirement for rental units on the future issuance of a building permit for habitable use of the farmhouse — currently described by project architect Ray as "a derelict shell." The board also voted unanimously to extend a local winery and brewery operator's food service permit through December 31, 2025, following a completed plumbing inspection, and approved tobacco permits for Cumberland Farms and Ruth Gold Liquor through September 30, 2026. In a wide-ranging discussion on food vendor compliance, the board addressed at least two vendors who operated without permits at the recent DFest community event and directed staff to identify the violators and convene a meeting with community event organizers before Christmas bazaar season, with a proposal to charge double the standard permit fee for after-the-fact applications. The board accepted 18 building and septic permits in a single session, including four Neil Jackson septic designs on North Street and Cold Hill.
