Granby Board of Health demands septic, well data before school renovation proceeds

GRANBY — November 4, 2025 — Granby's Board of Health put the brakes on the 414 West Street school renovation, demanding detailed soils logs and well-protection data before the project moves forward. Board member Dick Bombadier told the building committee that the site's newest septic system may date to 1972, that at least one earlier leach field has already been abandoned in the athletic field, and that a sewer line from the oldest building wing may run close to the on-site well — none of it evaluated with board oversight. Architect Tim Woodman of EDM Studio acknowledged the board had not been contacted when soils work was done, saying the committee "wanted to open the conversation and figure out our steps forward." Town Administrator Tammy, on the job since June 2, asked the board to outline the required next steps. Bombadier warned that septic replacement could cost $100,000 or more and said contracts reportedly set to be executed within weeks cannot proceed without the board's sign-off, with a special posted meeting likely needed before his departure on November 16.
