Granby Board of Health approves three septic designs, grants winery variance

GRANBY — October 21, 2025 — Granby Board of Health cleared three septic designs and granted a key variance at its October 21 meeting. The board approved full system repairs at 23 Pine Brook Circle and 49 Bon Street and a new construction design at Lot 5 Taylor Street, all submitted by engineer Neil Jackson and subject to minor drawing corrections including distribution box details required under state code. For the pending 44 Taylor Street design, the board voted 2-0 with one recusal to allow a three-foot rather than five-foot water table separation and delegated final sign-off authority to board agent Dick and administrator Colleen to avoid a one-month delay for a financially pressured owner. The board also reviewed active Wine House compliance concerns following a state DEP site visit by engineer Alex White, who identified missing buoyancy calculations, absent pump specifications, and an uninstalled 1,000-gallon holding tank that winery owner Jim Trumpy has agreed to add. Late in the meeting, George Fen of Local Power in Williamsburg pitched a pyrolysis-based waste processing alternative; the board cut the discussion short on open meeting law grounds and agreed to schedule a formal presentation, with the Select Board and town manager to be invited.
