Granby Board of Health Approves Five Corners Store Licenses, Advances Septic Rule Revisions

GRANBY — March 25, 2025 — Granby Board of Health conditionally approves Five Corners store licenses and advances septic regulation overhaul. The board unanimously approved retail food, milk, and tobacco permits for a new convenience-style store in the former Bumpies space at Five Corners, contingent on a sanitarian inspection by Lynn, the town's sanitarian. Members also continued a working review of local Title 5 upgrades, settling on a new 50-percent minimum capacity threshold for subsurface soil absorption systems — a gap in state code that, board members noted, could otherwise allow a system with "three feet of pipe running to nowhere" to pass inspection. The board revised inspection language requiring tanks to be "pumped to an empty state" rather than simply "empty," and voted to retain the rule mandating a board representative witness all Title 5 inspections. Four installer permit renewals, two well construction permits, and a perk test extension for two Chabe Street lots through April 11, 2027 were also approved unanimously, along with a one-day temporary food license for the Granby Beef Preservation Society's May 10 craft fair.
