Finance Committee approves $39,000 in transfers for ambulance, accounting help

GRANBY — November 4, 2025 — Granby Finance Committee approves two reserve fund transfers to cover an ambulance cost overrun and an urgent accounting fix. The board voted unanimously Tuesday to transfer $32,297 to cover a chassis price escalation on an ambulance approved at town meeting three years ago, bringing the total vehicle cost to roughly $431,000 — still well below the current market price of over $500,000 for a comparable unit, according to former Fire Chief Anderson. A second unanimous vote approved $7,000 to hire Madeline Motazic of Warren, the only available expert on Granby's legacy LBA Associates accounting software, to close the town's fiscal year 2025 books before a November 30 tax rate certification deadline. Town Administrator Tammy told the committee the engagement was essential: "We have no choice honestly because if we don't close our books, we don't get our tax recap." Anderson also disclosed that a previously planned $1.3 million fire truck purchase has been formally canceled at no penalty, with a replacement potentially available in the $700,000 to $800,000 range.
