Granby Finance Panel Delays Vote on Budget
Granby Finance Committee delays fiscal 2027 budget vote over a school funding gap and a debt-accounting overlap.
Finance Committee · Meeting of April 7, 2026
Granby Finance Committee delays fiscal 2027 budget vote over a school funding gap and a debt-accounting overlap. Members found that loan repayments for the town's ambulance and sewer debt appear to be counted twice, once in the retirement-and-debt budget and again in the enterprise budgets, a discrepancy pegged near $148,000. The school district's request leaves a shortfall members estimated at roughly $390,000, which one member called "a big number" they "can't just easily write a check for." The committee also weighed a warrant article rescinding a $75,000 generator appropriation at the Pleasant Street pumping station in favor of a $110,000 replacement, and a separate $2.9 million Forge Pond Dam rebuild eligible for state grant funds.
Members warned next year's budget will have roughly $1 million less available revenue than this year's. No budget votes were taken; the committee will revisit the numbers after an April workshop with the School Committee.
