Granby Finance Committee Unanimously Backs $9.17 Million School Budget for Town Meeting
Granby Finance Committee approves school budget and flags nine-year-old state dam order.
GRANBY -- May 7, 2026, Granby Finance Committee approves school budget and flags nine-year-old state dam order. The committee voted unanimously at its May 7 meeting to recommend a school operating budget of $9,175,457 and a transportation budget of $1,384,176 to Annual Town Meeting, along with a $1,936,256 free-cash appropriation to reduce the property-tax levy, $25,000 higher than the figure in the posted warrant after a last-minute shift from the Other Post-Employment Benefits line to the school budget. Members also cleared Article 28, a Capital Equipment Stabilization Fund transfer, and applied a $10,376 bond premium against debt service. The committee's headline action was adopting its annual report with language warning that "Granby has gone past the luxury of complacency" and that the state issued a Certificate of Non-Compliance and Dam Safety Order on March 17, 2017, demanding the town repair or remove Forge Pond dam, an order that carries a theoretical $5,000-per-day fine exposure now approaching nine years in duration.
